We've had a few questions recently regarding our range of in-line drinking water filters and what they do, so here is a handy guide as to what you can expect.

What is an in-line drinking water filter?

These are the catridges fitted under your sink which filter the water coming into your household to either a stand alone tap or a 3 in 1 tap. They provide a reasonable level of filtration to give you great tasting drinking water straight from the tap, without the need for separate water filter jugs.

Why do we need to filter our tap water?

In the UK our water is required by law to be fit for human consumption and UK water companies are constantly testing our mains water for a long list of microorganisms whilst treating it in order to make it safe. Whilst tap water is generally safe to drink, it can contain a variety of contaminents which can have a huge effect on the taste and odour of your tap water. Read our blog to find out more about what's in your water. In addition to this, although sofened water is perfectly safe to drink, guidelines state that it is still recommended that you also have a separate hard water drinking tap installed where possible. This means that there is still a choice of which water to drink.

What types of filters do we supply?

  • M9MP Micro Filter Cartridge

This is the filter that we fit as standard for the drinking water when you have a water softener fitted. This is a carbon block filter which will filter contaminents down to a size of 1 micron. This level of filtration will remove any tatses and odours such as chlorine from your drinking water. This type of filter will not remove scale however, it is only a scale inhibitor. The polyphosphate in the filter reduces the amount that your kettle furs up but not fully the scum found in your tea.

  • K3P Micro Filter Cartridge

Like the M9MP filter, this is a carbon block style filter with a scale inhibitor.

  • MH4P Micro Filter Cartridge

A similar style carbon block filter to the M9MP, also with a scale inhibitor. This filter however has greater capacity and can manage a higher flow of water. Like the other filters, this can also filter contaminents down to a size of 1 micron.

  • IEN1500 Micro Filter Cartridge

This carbon filter provides a further level of filtration to the standard carbon block filters as it also contains an ion exchange resin. This means that scale and scum is reduced. Unlike a water softener however, the longevity of this resin is relatively small as you don't regenerate the resin, only replace the filter when the resin beads have reached their capacity. This type of filter will also remove contaminents down to a size of 1 micron.

Is there an even better option?

All of the above will obviously provide great drinking water but for the purest drinking water, the way to go is always a Reverse Osmosis filtration system. These systems can filter contaminents down to the minute size of 0.0001 microns meaning that you are truly left with pure drinking water. Why not take a look at our great range of Reverse Osmosis drinking water systems.
