How Hard Water Affects Eczema
Eczema is a skin condition that affects a significant percentage of the population, causing discomfort, dryness and itching. Traditional management includes the use of moisturisers, topical steroids and avoiding triggering factors.
However, recent research, such as the one conducted by the University of Sheffield, suggests that the use of soft water could potentially be beneficial for individuals struggling with this condition.
Soft water is different from hard water because it lacks high concentrations of minerals like calcium and magnesium. Hard water can leave a residue on the skin that might cause dryness and irritation. This is particularly problematic for eczema sufferers as their skin barrier is often compromised, and any further irritation can exacerbate the condition.
